Career Exploration Project (Class of 2024)

All students in the class of 2024 are required to complete a career project as part of their PAHS graduation requirements. The graduation project is a career-based portfolio consisting of eight (8) Career Exploration activities, which align with Pennyslvania’s Future Readiness Index state standards. Counselors have been working with the students since their freshmen year on completing most of these Career Exploration activities.

One of the final activities that students must complete during their junior year is to complete a job shadowing experience OR conduct a career interview.

Instructions:

  • Students are to select an employer to job shadow or interview. The person they shadow/interview should be in a career the student is interested in.

    • Students are allowed to shadow/interview parents or other family members if they would like.

  • If students are going to job shadow, the student should: shadow for at least 5 hours.

  • If students are going to conduct an interview, the interview can take place in person or by phone/zoom.

  • Students are to complete the career chart during their shadowing experience/phone interview. Students will submit the completed career chart on March 8th.

  • Students are to complete their shadowing/interview anytime from now until February 28th.

  • Students are to create a powerpoint presentation, which will be shared during small group presentations on March 8, 2023. These small group presentations will allow students to learn about other careers from their peers.

    • Presentations should be well organized and include all of the information from the career chart that the student completes.

    • Presentation should be between 3-5 mins in length. Please do not exceed more than 5 minutes.

Students must have all (eight) 8 Career Exploration activities successfully completed by the end of Marking Period 3 of their junior year to satisfy this career portfolio graduation project. Their pass/fail grade will be included on their MP3 report card.
