PAHS Celebrates Black History

Black History Month is an annual PAHS celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. The assembly began with the singing of the first verse of the Black National Anthem by senior Domonyck Reeder. It continued with a historical overview of the involuntary, forced movement of Africans to America and featured the heroes of the Underground Railroad. Students then learned about the Great Migration that led to the Harlem Renaissance.
The talented PAHS teacher Ms. Anita Lewis and senior Domonyck Reeder taught the student body about spirituals and the manner in which slaves had to secretly communicate. The student body joined them in singing...

The end of the assembly brought black history home to Phoenixville by a presentation from Phoenixville's Black Light Project. This presentation focused on the many Phoenixville residents who had an impact on our community and continue to do so. Enjoy this presentation below.
